Course Description:

This session provides an overview of mental health conditions commonly encountered in nursing facilities (NF) and outlines strategies for successful care planning to enhance resident well-being. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of prevalent mental health issues among NF residents, including depression, anxiety, dementia, and other cognitive disorders. The course emphasizes the importance of a holistic and individualized approach to care planning, ensuring that mental health needs are met alongside physical health requirements.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the characteristics and symptoms of depression, anxiety, dementia, and other cognitive disorders.
  2. Understand the role of the interdisciplinary team in identifying risks and managing mental health issues.
  3. Explore strategies for creating personalized care plans that address both mental and physical health needs.
