Session Title:  Deep Dive Into Federal Regulations in a Year: §483.12 Freedom from Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation

Course Description:

This session will provide an overview of the Freedom from Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation regulations at §483.12, with an emphasis on the review the most commonly cited Freedom Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation Requirements. Strategies to avoid citations related to Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation will be emphasized through discussion of: Actual citation examples, Strategies for successfully managing the survey process & understanding the critical element pathways used to guide surveyor investigations, & Implementing survey preparedness activities to prevent Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation citations.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the regulatory requirements related to Freedom from Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation
  2. Identify survey procedures that describe how Freedom from Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation requirements are reviewed for compliance during the annual survey process
  3. Identify examples of how Freedom from Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation are commonly cited in the long-term care survey process
  4. Explain strategies for incorporating survey preparedness related to Freedom from Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation into facility QAPI processes
