Session Title: Is this Skin Manifestation Related to COVID-19 or is it a Pressure Ulcer/Injury?

Course Description:

This program will describe the silent skin and mucosal manifestations associated with COVID-19. In addition, the content will include differentiating COVID skin manifestations from other hard-to-heal wound etiologies such as pressure ulcer/injuries, Kennedy Terminal Ulcer (an unavoidable pressure ulcer/injury) and peripheral arterial disease. There are ICD-10 codes you should use to distinguish skin disruptions related to COVID-19. These codes will be given in the program to use if you are not currently using them.  This program will help you recognize COVID-19 skin injury from pressure ulcer/injury to better support your residents and to assist you through the survey process when you have a skin issues that looks like a pressure ulcer/injury, but in reality is related to COVID-19. Lastly, the presentation will discuss how COVID-19 may decrease your opportunities for healing wounds due to systemic oxygenation issues during and following this disease.

Presented by:  Dr. Pamela Scarborough

Dr. Scarborough is the Vice President of Clinical Affairs for American Medical Technologies. Her clinical career spans more than 35 years, having practiced in a variety of settings. Her clinical experience is vast and includes traditional physical therapy, orthopedics and sports medicine, cardiac rehabilitation, and wound management across the continuum of care. Pamela is published in wound book chapters, has written articles, and monographs on the various topics related to wound management and is a highly sought-after speaker, invited to present to interdisciplinary audiences nationally and internationally. Her current focus of education/training and mentoring is clinical best-practices and CMS regulatory components related to wound prevention and management in the long-term sub-acute care settings.

 

Nurses:  The Kansas Healthcare Association is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing.  This offering is approved for 1.0 contact hour applicable for RN and LPN relicensure (KSBN LT0030-0338)

Administrators & Operators:  This course offering is approved for 1.0 continuing education clock hour for the Kansas licensed adult care home administrators and operators in the core area of Resident Care by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services.  KDADS Health Occupations Credentialing Approved Sponsorship number:  LTS-A0001.
